Head of Underwriting - Employed - Basic to £80,000 + bonus + equity potential -  Reading, Berkshire

The role:

We are looking for a Head of Underwriting and Loan Administration. The individual needs to have previous experience underwriting high-value consumer loans.

The individual will need to develop the loan underwriting and administration processes and procedures. This is a start-up business which requires a hands-on approach. The jobholder has to be proactive in working with clients, often face to face, to provide a first class service.

You will operate as a member of the senior management team.

Key responsibilities:

  • To create and maintain our Credit Policy
  • To manage the end to end loan cycle from loan acceptance, administration, collections and recoveries.
  • To manage our lending within our credit risk appetite.
  • To implement and manage our anti-fraud policies and procedures.
  • To oversee the development of appropriate MI to assess actual loss experience and, in conjunction with senior management, to provide direction to new product development, pricing and other commercial decision making.

Key requirements:

  • Previous experience underwriting high-value consumer loans. Ideally someone with experience of underwriting high-value high net worth consumer loans.
  • It would be advantageous if the applicant has a good understanding of both the Family Law market and the Legal Funding market.
  • A hands-on approach. This will be particularly evident in the start-up phase when the jobholder will work closely with Sales, IT and Finance to design and build core processes.
  • A committed team player with a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Someone with the ability to ‘hold the credit line’ with senior management, balanced by the vision to see commercial opportunities and desire to develop innovative solutions to realise these opportunities.
